Universal Preschool is a program through the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC). Universal Preschool Colorado ensures that every child in the year before they are eligible for Kindergarten has access for up to half-day (15 hours/week) of state-funded, voluntary preschool.
UPK 2026-27
- All families with students who turn 4 on or before October 1, 2026, are eligible.
- Applications for the 2026-27 School Year opened December 9, 2025.
- Applications are still being accepted for the current school year.
- Families will create an account to apply for preschool through the Universal Preschool Program (UPK) family portal.

Family enrollment for the next 2026-27 Colorado Universal Preschool school year opens on December 9, 2025 at 12pm, see the full timeline here. Family enrollment in the current 2025-26 Colorado Universal Preschool school year continues. All children in their year before Kindergarten can register for at least 15 hours of funding per week towards a high-quality preschool of their choice.
